About the role
Attends and assists Judges with courtroom proceedings across multiple case types—criminal, civil, and others—administering oaths, recording testimony, marking and securing exhibits, and performing bailiff duties as needed.
Responsibilities
- Receive and examine legal documents for accuracy, completeness, and conformity; return unacceptable documents; affix seals and stamps to certify and file.
- Issue legal documents to advance court cases to litigation.
- Review court form instructions and CSKT Laws Codified to ensure civil litigants file documents correctly.
- Enter and update information in case management software; verify data accuracy.
- Communicate with Federal, State, and local agencies, firms, or individuals to conduct court business.
- Cover duties of Clerk of Court and Secretary/Receptionist when absent.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in a legal field or two years of progressively responsible experience in a public services program or legal practice or equivalent training and experience in courtroom/judicial office principles.
- Two years of legal secretarial experience desired or equivalent training/experience requiring people skills, planning, and coordination.
- Must pass a thorough background check, criminal history check, and sign a confidentiality agreement.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, handle high stress, and interact congenially with employees, court professionals, and the public.
- No felony convictions ever; no misdemeanor convictions within the previous three years.
