Part-time position with the John Jay College men’s basketball program (NCAA Division III).
About the role
Under the supervision of the Head Coach, Athletics Director, or Deputy Athletics Director, the Assistant Coach assists in all aspects of operating, managing, and coaching a competitive Division III men’s basketball program and developing its student-athletes.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of all team members through dedicated, enthusiastic coaching.
- Attend the majority of (preferably all) practices (2:00–4:30 pm and 7:00–9:00 am) and evening games.
- Promote the academic success and personal/professional growth of student-athletes.
- Assist in planning, managing, evaluating, and coordinating every facet of the program.
- Organize practice sessions and game-day coaching operations.
- Prepare game plans and scouting reports on opponents.
- Proactively recruit high-quality prospective student-athletes.
- Maintain discipline during contests, practices, and off-campus trips.
- Participate in team fundraising and alumni engagement events.
- Pursue professional-development opportunities to benefit the program.
- Attend campus, conference, regional, and national meetings as required.
- Comply with all policies set by federal/state laws, CUNY, the CUNY Athletic Conference, John Jay College, and NCAA Division III.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Playing and/or coaching experience in basketball.
- Current CPR/AED certification (must be obtained upon hiring).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
Pay
$10,000
