About the role
Goodwill Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (GWNYNJ) seeks a Supported Employment Job Developer to work with individuals with disabilities through a process known as Customized Employment. The role involves assessing individuals through a "Discovery" process, placing them in competitive jobs, and maintaining relationships with employers.
Responsibilities
- Follow up with employers, funding sources, parents, and The Awesome Things You’ll Do
- Develop a variety of community-based sites for limited-time internships covering different types of career explorations
- Place 25 individuals per year
- Develop appropriate resumes for consumers in the program
- Maintain relationships with existing employers
- Develop new accounts
- Aid consumers in finding, getting, and keeping jobs
- “Job Match” a participant’s experience, temperament, and stated work settings and goals
- Market and set up on-site job coaching for consumers when necessary
- Be knowledgeable about Social Security work incentives and how employment affects an individual’s disability benefits
- Calculate and explain SSI & SSDI benefits plans to clients
- Educate employers on relevant program and placement issues
- Manage appropriate paperwork as required by funding source
- Establish relationships with businesses interested in customized workplace training
- Provide participants with job search services, including resume writing and interview preparation
- Manage and ensure HIPAA confidentiality of records
Requirements
- High school or GED required at minimum; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Two years’ experience working with persons with disabilities
- Experience as a Job Developer and/or Sales Marketing or related field a plus

- Proven ability to cultivate and maintain employer relationships with business and industry
- Focus on employers providing employment opportunity in various fields
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong presentation and networking skills
- Ability to work with difficult population and defuse tense situations
- Team player and strong work ethic
- Flexible, open to new ideas, creative, and energetic
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT)
