About the role

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer pool in Japanese to teach undergraduate courses in Japanese language, culture, literature, linguistics and/or film (beginners to advanced learners).

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Japanese language, culture, literature, linguistics and/or film (beginners to advanced learners)
  • Teach at least two of the following subject areas: Japanese Language, Introductory to Advanced Japanese Culture, Intermediate to Advanced Japanese Literature, Japanese Linguistics, Intermediate to Advanced

Requirements

  • Hold at least a master’s degree in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native-like fluency in Japanese to teach lower-division (100- and 200-level) courses
  • Be a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native-like fluency in Japanese in order to teach 300-level courses
  • Hold a Ph.D. in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native-like fluency in Japanese in order to teach 400-level courses
  • Demonstrate ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students

Qualifications

  • Legal right to work in the United States of America
  • Reside in the State of California at the time of hiring

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level
  • Evidence of strong teaching
  • Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment
  • Relevant work experience
  • Professional capabilities

Performance Evaluation

Regular performance evaluations of part-time lecturers are made by the department in accord with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These performance evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future and continued teaching assignments.

Appointment and Salary

  • Classification Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
  • Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month
