IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN)

Duties

• Serve as a TS/SCI Network and Systems Administrator.
• Adapt and implement systems diagnostic and maintenance tools to ensure the availability and functionality of systems required to support organizational objectives.
• Oversee configuration and installation of network equipment and changing components of existing equipment for efficient operation.
• Maintain an inventory of all networked hardware and software.
• Determine if established networks need improvement.
• Provide guidance to other System Administrators and personnel involved in network and system management, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and system retirement.
• Serve as a technical expert performing feasibility studies involving application of emerging computer technology to resolve unique user network and/or telecommunications requirements.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• This is a Cyberspace Workforce position (work role code 451, proficiency level INTERMEDIATE). The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain qualifications in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
• MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.

Qualifications

Applicants must have directly applicable experience demonstrating the following competencies:

• Attention to Detail – Thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Examples include providing oversight for implementation of new system hardware and software and developing operating procedures.
• Customer Service – Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations. Examples include coordinating and reviewing customer requirements and workflow in user application areas.
• Oral Communication – Expresses information effectively, makes clear and convincing oral presentations, listens to others, and responds appropriately. Examples include analyzing business practices and adapting automated management solutions.
• Problem Solving – Identifies problems, determines accuracy and relevance of information, and uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives. Examples include installing and maintaining software and hardware, managing configuration, and tracking future releases.

In addition to the above competencies, qualifying experience includes:

• Measuring performance of IT systems using tools, methods, and techniques, and evaluating proposed upgrades or replacements.
• Evaluating and recommending selection of new system diagnostic tools.
• Advising management and operators regarding capabilities, compatibility, security, troubleshooting, and testing of systems and networks.
• Developing and maintaining procedures for networks, system operations, and product assembly and installation.

This position is within the Work Category PROFESSIONAL at Work Level FULL-PERFORMANCE, Series and Grade GG-2210-12. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs.
