Location: Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO or Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL. Relocation assistance is not available. This is an onsite position; remote/telework is not available. Must hold an active DoD Secret clearance and be able to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance. Day shift with up to 10% travel required.

About the Role

The IT Scrum Master supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. This role operates in an onsite, hybrid environment, facilitating collaboration across geographically dispersed technical teams in Huntsville and Colorado Springs. The candidate will partner directly with the Release Train Engineer (RTE) to align the Scrum Master role with program-level SAFe frameworks and Agile release trains.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the RTE to define, mature, and align the Scrum Master role with SAFe frameworks and Agile release trains.
  • Collaborate with the RTE to design, implement, and train the IT team on customized Agile processes, aiding the transition to a structured Agile delivery model.
  • Establish a cohesive "one-team" dynamic across geographically split locations using virtual collaboration tools and inclusive hybrid engagement models.
  • Facilitate an optimized Agile battle rhythm tailored to the operational needs and delivery cycles of IT and infrastructure teams.
  • Guide and coach the team and organization on Agile/Scrum practices to deliver high-quality IT solutions.
  • Assist the Product Owner and Technical Leads with backlog maintenance, prioritizing IT initiatives, and translating technical requirements into actionable user stories.
  • Ensure all planning data is documented in the system of record for accurate reporting and metrics development.
  • Deliver weekly metrics to the RTE.
  • Identify, track, and resolve impediments or blockers hindering Sprint goals.
  • Manage and track team capacity, sprint velocity, and burn-down charts using Agile lifecycle management tools.
  • Facilitate cross-team coordination and dependency management, particularly for enterprise system upgrades or break/fix activities.
  • Integrate IT service delivery and cybersecurity compliance tasks into the Agile workflow.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability within the team.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of general full-time work experience (may be reduced with advanced education).
  • 2+ years of directly related experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or Project Manager.
  • Current Agile certification (e.g., Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM I), or SAFe Scrum Master (SSM)).
  • Experience using Agile management and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps) for remote and hybrid teams.
  • Experience applying Agile methodologies to IT operations.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance; ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance.

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence and mentor highly technical engineers new to Agile frameworks.
  • Collaborative partner capable of aligning team-level operations with broader organizational vision.
  • Proficient in managing remote/virtual team dynamics across multiple time zones.
  • Ability to quickly learn challenging IT and infrastructure concepts to address team impediments and technical debt.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments to build and document Agile processes from the ground up.
  • Self-starter who identifies project risks, resource bottlenecks, and opportunities to improve team efficiency.
  • Excellent presentation, oral, and written communication skills for senior customer management, Product Owners, and technical staff.
  • "Can-do" attitude with the ability to thrive in a high-pace, dynamic enterprise IT environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • Prior experience in Agile/Scrum practices within a technical team, ideally under an RTE or Agile Coach.
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) in a DoD or government contracting environment.
  • Technical background or experience in System Administration, Network Engineering, or IT Service Management.
  • Experience integrating ITIL methodologies (Change, Incident, Problem management) with Agile processes.
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE).
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity processes (e.g., RMF, Secure Host Baselines, DISA STIGs).
  • Advanced Agile certifications (e.g., A-CSM, PSM II, PMI-ACP, or SAFe Release Train Engineer).

Pay

$110,000 – $140,000 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable laws or agreements.
