IT Records Technician (IT Technician I)
About the role
We are seeking specialized Information Technician I's to assist in all processes related to records, from accessions to disposition to customer support. This role typically involves working in a facility or warehouse environment to ensure the county’s material stays protected and findable. It also includes direct contact with agencies across the county.
Responsibilities
- Processes the secure transfer, storage, and destruction of physical records, ensuring proper documentation of all activities.
- Provides data entry and inventory control in information management systems, including Content Manager and SharePoint.
- Collaborates with agencies and vendors to resolve problems.
- Prepares performance measurement reports.
- Performs analytical and programming tasks to enhance operations and workflows related to records management.
- Aids analyst staff in building partnerships with agency records coordinators and other stakeholders to improve records practices across Fairfax County Government.
Requirements
- Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from high school; plus either one year of specialized experience or two years of general experience in the installation and troubleshooting of personal computers, network/telecommunications systems; or possession of an associate’s degree in computer science or related field.
- Necessary special requirements: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications: Experience working in records management, library, or information management related area.
- Preferred qualifications: Experience working in warehouses, records centers, and/or archives; Knowledge of technical skills, and experience working with databases, content management systems, and data migration tools; Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Office 365 software especially Word, Excel, and Access; Proficiency with SharePoint; Two or more years of records management experience in the public sector (Federal/State/Local Government); Experience in customer service; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Preferred degree: Degree in Records Management, Information Science, or a related field.
Skills
- Knowledge of technical skills, and experience working with databases, content management systems, and data migration tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Office 365 software especially Word, Excel, and Access.
- Proficiency with SharePoint.
