IT Infrastructure Engineer
About the Role
The Systems Administrator III – Automation Focus is a senior-level role responsible for managing and optimizing enterprise IT infrastructure through advanced automation. This position ensures system reliability, scalability, and security by designing and implementing automated solutions for provisioning, configuration, and monitoring. The role collaborates with cross-functional teams to streamline operations, reduce manual processes, and drive continuous improvement using modern automation tools and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Possess deep expertise to understand existing computer systems and troubleshoot issues from both a business process perspective and a technical design standpoint.
- Leverage a deep understanding of business requirements to design and contribute to detailed technical specifications that enable automation-driven enhancements to existing systems or the development of new solutions, including integrating scripting, orchestration tools, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Collaborate and communicate with stakeholders across all business levels to understand requirements and translate them into automation-driven solutions that enhance system performance and operational efficiency.
- Work with IT teams—including Architects, Database Administrators, Developers, and QA—to design and implement automation-driven solutions that align with enterprise architecture standards and integrate seamlessly within the IT environment.
- Partner with unit and department leadership to support IT strategy and business planning through scalable, automated infrastructure practices.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in programming and scripting languages, operating systems, and hardware platforms to design, implement, and automate infrastructure solutions that optimize performance and reduce manual effort.
- Design and develop scripts or automation programs that extend functionality, improve efficiency, and enhance reliability within production systems.
- Understand system databases or leverage DBA expertise to create automated queries and generate dynamic business reports, reducing manual effort and improving data accessibility.
- Collaborate with third-party software vendors and cross-Honda teams to evaluate, recommend, and integrate solutions that align with business needs and support automation initiatives for streamlined IT operations.
- Serve as a key member of the MSO sysadmin team, actively supporting day-to-day operations and leveraging automation to improve efficiency.
- Participate in weekend validation processes for production startup and provide weekend support to ensure system reliability and seamless operations.
Requirements
- 7+ years Systems Analyst experience; 10+ years IT experience.
- Preferably a Bachelor’s Degree in computer systems analysis, computer science, computer information systems (CIS), management information systems (MIS), business intelligence, or a similar field of study, or equivalent experience gained through relevant work history.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Working knowledge of Java full stack, OpenShift, HAProxy, JBOSS, .Net, Windows Server, AIX, RHEL, SQL, DB2, PostgreSQL.
- Basic understanding of cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure).
- Intermediate understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC), and ability to navigate through code with logical understanding.
Job Location
Marysville, OH (preferred). Other onsite options can potentially be accommodated in a Honda corporate office located in one of these metropolitan regions: Lincoln, AL; Swepsonville, NC; Atlanta, GA; Greensburg, IN.
Schedule
This is an onsite job. One remote workday per week may be possible with prior departmental approval.
