About the role

The Ironworker Leadman will direct and supervise a crew in planning, layout, installation, and alignment in accordance with plans, specifications, tolerances, industry standards, and codes. You will plan and coordinate the efforts of journeymen and craftsmen, motivating the crew to accomplish work safely, productively, correctly, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Identify safety hazards employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
• Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, smell of smoke, warning tags, warning sirens).
• Understand and implement lockout/tag out procedures in a safe manner.
• Understand, train, and implement 100% tie-off/fall protection.
• Basic understanding of the MasTec Safety Manual and policies, including fall protection, confined space, LOTO, and trenching.
• Ensure daily equipment inspections are performed by your crew on all equipment used that day.
• Follow the MasTec planning/JSA process for your crew; review, provide feedback, and training.
• Support/perform additional safety practices: supervisor audits, craft observations, SLT meetings if requested.
• Report ALL safety events and near misses to your supervisor.
• Inspect subordinate’s/crew’s work for compliance with contract plans and specifications; point out deficiencies, explain, and take corrective action.
• Ensure through personal inspections that correct construction procedures are followed and work complies with plans and specifications.
• Ensure your crew is qualified to perform their work and has the appropriate certifications/licenses.
• Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on-site.
• Set a personal example of safe behavior.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Perform arithmetic operations: add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s, and use units of weight measurement and volume.
• Carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form with common-sense understanding.
• Work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
• Maintain in-depth relations with all members of your team and your supervisor.

Requirements

• 4 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• NCCER Certification/License (preferred).
• Some experience in a supervisory role.

Physical Demands

• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.

• Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
• Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several-hour intervals.
• Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions with constant changes in weather and site conditions.
• Moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest).
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
• Work at heights and abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; wear and utilize all required safety equipment.

Schedule

This is a full-time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements.

Travel

Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.

Pay

$38.00/hour, commensurate with experience.
