About the role

The Ironworker Leadman will direct and supervise a crew in planning, layout, installation, and alignment in accordance with plans, specifications, tolerances, industry standards, and codes. The role involves planning and coordinating the efforts of journeymen and craftsmen, motivating the crew to accomplish work safely, productively, correctly, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Identify safety hazards employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
• Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, smell of smoke, warning tags, warning sirens).
• Understand and implement lockout/tag out procedures safely.
• Understand, train, and implement 100% tie-off/fall protection.
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of the MasTec Safety Manual and policies, including fall protection, confined space, LOTO, and trenching.
• Ensure daily equipment inspections are performed by your crew on all equipment used that day.
• Follow the MasTec planning/JSA process for your crew; review, provide feedback, and train the crew.
• Support/perform additional safety practices such as supervisor audits, craft observations, and SLT meetings if requested.
• Report all safety events and near misses to your supervisor.
• Inspect subordinates'/crew's work for compliance with contract plans and specifications; point out deficiencies, explain, and take corrective action as needed.
• Ensure through personal inspections that correct construction procedures are followed and work complies with plans and specifications.
• Verify that your crew is qualified to perform their work and has the appropriate certifications/licenses.
• Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on-site.
• Set a personal example of safe behavior.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using units of weight, measurement, and volume.
• Apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
• Maintain in-depth relations with all members of your team and your supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 4 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• NCCER Certification/License (preferred).
• Some experience in a supervisory role.

Skills

• Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with units of weight, measurement, and volume.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
• Good balance and ability to work at heights while adhering to all safety and fall-protection requirements.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to maintain relationships with team members and supervisors.

Physical Demands

• Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical labor in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
• Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
• Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
• Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several-hour intervals.
• Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions with constant changes in weather and site conditions.

Schedule

This is a full-time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. The schedule is subject to project requirements. Travel is required up to 90%, with presence directly on the project site location and intermittent travel to residence of record.

Pay

$38.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
