About the role

The Ironworker General Foreman will direct and supervise a crew in planning, layout, installation, and alignment of structural components in accordance with plans, specifications, tolerances, industry standards, and codes. This role involves coordinating the efforts of journeymen and craftsmen, motivating the crew to accomplish work safely, productively, correctly, and efficiently, and collaborating with other crafts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Identify safety hazards and take corrective action to eliminate or minimize risks.
• Understand and respond to safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, warning tags, sirens).
• Implement lockout/tagout procedures safely and ensure 100% tie-off/fall protection compliance.
• Train and enforce MasTec Safety Manual policies, including fall protection, confined space, LOTO, and trenching.
• Ensure daily equipment inspections are performed by the crew on all tools and machinery in use.
• Follow the MasTec planning/JSA process, review feedback, and provide training for the crew.
• Support additional safety practices, including supervisor audits, craft observations, and SLT meetings.
• Report all safety events and near misses to supervision.
• Read, understand, and follow contract plans and specifications, including discipline-specific codes.
• Inspect crew work for compliance with plans and specifications, correct deficiencies, and ensure proper construction procedures.
• Verify crew qualifications and certifications for assigned tasks.
• Produce quality work meeting plans, specifications, and industry standards; complete and submit quality paperwork.
• Understand assigned work and budgets, meeting or exceeding budgeted man-hours.
• Conduct effective gang box meetings, assign performance goals, and ensure crew productivity within 20-25 minutes of start time.
• Inspect field conditions, identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures; take corrective actions as needed.
• Follow MasTec planning processes, including 1-week look-ahead, daily goal cards, JSAs, and task planning.
• Perform and lead task planning sessions to safely and efficiently execute assigned work.
• Listen to employee suggestions, complaints, and safety concerns; evaluate and implement action plans.
• Coordinate with warehouse and superintendent to ensure adequate tools, materials, and equipment are available.
• Develop a thorough understanding of project scope, plans, specifications, and schedules.
• Conduct gang box meetings to communicate safety, work scope, plans, and schedules.
• Provide on-the-job training to crew members and review JSAs daily with coaching.
• Understand and follow applicable employee laws and MasTec HR policies.
• Complete performance reviews for journeymen and craft workers.
• Prepare weekly 1-week schedules based on superintendent’s 3-week/6-week schedule.
• Review crew timecards for accuracy in hours and phase coding.
• Perform all essential functions of craft workers under supervision when needed.
• Perform other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

• 4+ years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• NCCER Certification/License (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory role.
• Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and ability to perform operations using units of weight and volume.
• Ability to follow written or oral instructions and work within precise standards of accuracy.
• Maintain strong relations with team members and supervisors.

Physical Demands

• Work up to 12-hour shifts performing hard physical labor in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
• Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
• Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb as required by job tasks.
• Perform repetitive tasks continuously for several hours.
• Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, and vest.
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
• Work at heights and comply with all safety and fall-protection requirements.
• Evaluate information based on measurable standards and recognize details in objects or drawings.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
• Maintain good balance, vision (naturally or corrected), hearing (naturally or corrected), and hand-eye-foot coordination.

Schedule

This is a full-time position typically requiring 50 hours per week. The schedule is subject to project requirements, with travel up to 90% and presence directly on the project site. Intermittent travel to residence of record is required.

Pay

$42.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
