About the role
The Ironworker General Foreman will direct and supervise a crew in planning, laying out, installing, and aligning all in accordance with plans, specifications, tolerances, industry standards, and codes. This role involves coordinating efforts of the journeyman and craftsmen under supervision, ensuring safety, productivity, correctness, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Identify and address safety hazards and take corrective action.
- Respond appropriately to safety hazards and warning devices.
- Implement lockout/tag out procedures safely.
- Train and implement 100% tie off/fall protection.
- Ensure daily equipment inspections by the crew.
- Follow the Mastec planning/JSA process for the crew.
- Support/perform additional safety practices: Supervisor audits, Craft observations, SLT meetings if requested.
- Report ALL safety events and near misses to the supervisor.
- Read, understand, and follow contract plans and specifications.
- Inspect subordinate's/crew work for compliance with plans and specifications, point out deficiencies, and take corrective action.
- Ensure correct construction procedures are followed and work is in compliance with plans and specifications.
- Ensure crew is qualified to perform their work and have appropriate certifications/licenses.
- Complete and submit quality paperwork and system signs offs.
- Meet or beat budgeted man-hours and produce quality work.
- Conduct effective Gang box meetings, assign/align performance goals, and ensure crew is “tools on” and working within 20-25 minutes of the start time.
- Perform and lead task planning sessions to safely and efficiently carry out assigned work.
- Communicate with the warehouse and superintendent to ensure adequate supplies are available for upcoming work.
- Gain a complete understanding of the scope of work and related project plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Conduct gang box meetings and communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans, and schedules to leadmen and crews.
- Provide on-the-job training to individuals under supervision.
- Understand and know applicable employee laws and follow Mastec HR policies.
- Complete performance reviews of journeyman and craft workers.
- Review JSAs daily and provide coaching to the assigned crew.
- Motivate and work productively, maintaining a good attitude towards work and internal/external personnel.
- Prepare the 1-week schedule and review crew's timecards for correct hours and phase coding.
Qualifications
- 4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- NCCER Certification/License (preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in supervisory role.
- Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
- Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform these operations using units, weight measurement, and volume.
- Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
- Physical demands: up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions; maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks; stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals; uncontrolled environmental conditions: constant change in weather and site conditions; ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.); move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights; evaluate information based on measurable standards; see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings; visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings; keep good balance and work at heights; see well (either naturally or with correction); hear well (either naturally or with correction); coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.
