About the Role

The Ironworker General Foreman will direct and supervise a crew in planning, layout, installation, and alignment of work in accordance with plans, specifications, tolerances, industry standards, and codes. This role involves coordinating the efforts of journeymen and craftsmen, motivating the crew to accomplish work safely, productively, correctly, and efficiently, and collaborating with other crafts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Identify safety hazards and take corrective action to eliminate or minimize risks.
• Understand and respond to safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, warning tags, sirens).
• Implement lockout/tag out procedures safely.
• Understand, train, and enforce 100% tie-off/fall protection policies.
• Ensure familiarity with the MasTec Safety Manual and policies, including fall protection, confined space, LOTO, and trenching.
• Oversee daily equipment inspections by the crew.
• Follow the MasTec planning/JSA process, review feedback, and provide training for the crew.
• Support and perform additional safety practices, such as supervisor audits, craft observations, and SLT meetings.
• Report all safety events and near misses to supervisors.
• Read, understand, and follow contract plans and specifications, including relevant codes.
• Inspect subordinate/crew work for compliance with plans and specifications, address deficiencies, and take corrective action.
• Ensure correct construction procedures are followed through personal inspections.
• Verify crew qualifications and certifications/licenses for assigned tasks.
• Produce quality work meeting plans, specifications, and industry standards.
• Complete and submit quality paperwork and system sign-offs.
• Understand assigned work and budgets, meeting or exceeding budgeted man-hours.
• Conduct effective gang box meetings, assign performance goals, and ensure crew productivity within 20-25 minutes of start time.
• Inspect field conditions, identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures, and take corrective action.
• Follow the MasTec planning process, including 1-week look-ahead, daily goal cards, JSAs, and task planning.
• Perform other job-specific duties, including scheduling, material control, and productivity tracking.
• Perform and lead all essential functions of craft workers under supervision.
• Lead task planning sessions to safely and efficiently execute assigned work.
• Listen to employee suggestions, complaints, problems, and safety concerns, evaluate them, and implement action plans.
• Plan and communicate with the warehouse and superintendent to ensure adequate tools, materials, and equipment are available.
• Understand the scope of work, project plans, specifications, and schedules for assigned tasks.
• Conduct gang box meetings to communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans, and schedules.
• Provide on-the-job training to individuals under supervision.
• Understand and follow applicable employee laws and MasTec HR policies.
• Complete performance reviews for journeymen and craft workers.
• Review JSAs daily and provide coaching to the crew.
• Maintain productivity, a positive attitude, and professionalism toward work and personnel.
• Prepare the 1-week schedule based on the superintendent’s 3-week/6-week schedule.
• Review crew timecards for accuracy in hours and phase coding.
• Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisors.

Requirements

• 4+ years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• NCCER Certification/License (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory role.
• Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
• Set a personal example of safe behavior.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using units of weight, measurement, and volume.
• Carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures.
• Maintain strong relationships with team members and supervisors.

Physical Demands

• Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical labor in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
• Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
• Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
• Perform repetitive tasks continuously for several hours.
• Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and vests.
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
• Work at heights and comply with all safety and fall-protection requirements, including wearing required safety equipment.
• Evaluate information based on measurable standards and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
• Maintain good balance while working at heights.
• See well (naturally or with correction).
• Hear well (naturally or with correction).
• Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.

Schedule

This is a full-time position typically scheduled for 50 hours per week, subject to project requirements. Travel is required up to 90%, with presence directly on the project site and intermittent travel to residence.

Pay

$42.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
