Inventory Lead

Job Summary

The Inventory Lead is responsible for controlling the flow of work, storing, moving, handling and distributing materials as well as directing Material Handlers. The Inventory Lead takes materials from one location to another and may be involved in the process of extracting and loading the materials to be transported. An Inventory Lead has a very structured work environment to minimize safety risks. Each job is planned in detail, and safety issues are addressed before a job begins.

About the Role

Performs daily operations and forklift safety checks, including battery, seat belt, brakes, life control and fire extinguisher. Identifies many types of raw material, in process or finished product, equipment, or processing materials. Manages employees by monitoring attendance, work practices and general duties. Ensures Quality Control is met on each job Ensures inventory schedule is met Informs designated employees, managers or departments of problems encountered Collaborates with workers and partner with managers to solve workrelated problems Checks identification of materials to be moved. Crossreferences with production schedule or shipping schedule to ensure accuracy. Proceeds safely to assigned area to pull load and move materials to correct work area. Reports inconsistencies or problems to supervisors Receives, documents, stores, stages and issues all job related material to satisfy production requirements. Supports assembly / fabrication requirements, as necessary. Assists operators in delivering Fabrication parts in order to maximize department efficiency. Removes and distributes empty pallets and buckets as needed. Selects, prepares & updates paperwork and schedules both on paper and computer. Packages, creates and bands equipment, parts, materials, products and accessories to minimize damage during shipment or staging and to create a safe work environment. Applies labels, stickers, and stencils as required for identification and ease of storage or shipping. Complies with all safety requirements including proper use of personal protective equipment and operation of equipment in a safe and competent manner. Understands and meets all departmental safety objectives and goals. Keeps assigned workarea clean, organized, and orderly per 5S standards. Operates overhead hoists and forklifts to move material and necessary equipment to perform machine operations. Arranges parts as needed for production and delivers raw stock, partially completed work, and completed jobs to appropriate storage or production areas. Maintains accurate inventory, reporting shortages/overages and supply needs to supervisor.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent, required.
• Experience in working in steel industry or inventory, a plus.
• Ability to be forklift and overhead crane certified and operate a forklift and overhead crane. (Forklift experience required).

Working Conditions

The position is a shop floor and yard position. Works primarily outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors and chemicals.
