Interpreter (English/Spanish) - PRN

Summary

The Interpreter at Arkansas Children's provides foreign language interpretation and translation to AC patients and families. The position requires proficiency in multiple languages, independent work ability, and the capacity to handle stressful situations.

Responsibilities

• Timely and accurate interpretation and translation of information
• Proficient in writing, demonstrating quality translation of patient-specific materials and educational pamphlets
• Educates staff on cultural issues affecting care
• Confirms completion of language requests and ensures patient/staff receives assistance
• Demonstrates knowledge of ADA rules for hearing impaired assistance
• Reports patient concerns and follows up to ensure they are addressed
• Communicates with other interpreters about needs and problem solves with the team
• Assists with three-way interpreting and written translation requests
• Enters daily list of patients seen and services provided into the departmental activity log/database
• Offers assistance to foreign-speaking hospitalized or clinic patients

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, or four years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Entry-level experience not required, but related health care or medical interpreting experience is recommended
• Required certification: Interpreter Skills Assessment - Arkansas Children's
• Recommended certification: Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) - CCHI or Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) - NBCMI
