Summary

To provide patient, families, visitors, and staff access to employees who accurately interpret via face to face encounters during designated hours.

Cook Children's Medical Center is the cornerstone of Cook Children's, and offers advanced technologies, research and treatments, surgery, rehabilitation and ancillary services all designed to meet children's needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate interpretation of health care information to and from Spanish-speaking patients/patients families and Medical Center health care providers.
• Facilitate the acquisition of Interpreter Services for non-Spanish languages (via OPI/over the phone, VRI/video remote interpreter and/or contract services).

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting with current knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
• Previous Interpretation / Translation Experience Preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to precisely and accurately translate critical medical information from English to the patient's native language.

Skills

• Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
• Excellent communication and active listening skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
• Ability to interact and communicate with people in-person and over the telephone, often in stressful situations.
