Position Overview
Technicians perform a variety of animal-health duties to ensure exceptional patient care. Technicians should be proficient in intermediate nursing duties including but not limited to patient assessment and monitoring, phlebotomy, IVC placement, medication/fluid administration, medical calculations, anesthesia monitoring, etc. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of internal medicine and the ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to patients utilizing a variety of technical skills including, diagnostic sample collection, intravenous catheter placement, etc.
- Assist the doctors with consultation and recheck appointments
- Work under the guidance of the physician to relay information to clients
- Schedule new patient consultations, recheck examinations, procedures, and technician outpatient appointments
- Cookordinate and facilitate daily scheduled appointments, procedures, emergency transfer cases, as well as inpatient consultations for canine and feline patients
- Keep current in veterinary medicine trends through CE attendance
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ professional experience in small animal clinical setting as a technician
- State certification to practice as a veterinary technician preferred
- Superior technical knowledge and skills
- Proficient in medical math calculations (drugs, conversions, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
- Proficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasks
- Enthusiastic team player with a patient, and positive professional attitude
- Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the day
- Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm manner
- Must be able to anticipate patient needs and be detail oriented due to the high level of quality medicine
