About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled rheumatologist to join our dynamic healthcare team at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH). In this role, you will diagnose and treat patients with a spectrum of rheumatic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoarthritis, and gout. The responsibilities of the practice are flexible, allowing your unique interests and priorities to influence its direction.

The current team of internists, who have been providing rheumatology services, will offer strong support to ensure a seamless transition and promote a cooperative working environment. As KBRH serves as a community training site for the UBC medical school, you will have the opportunity to mentor students and residents, shaping future rheumatologists.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed patient assessments, including reviews of medical histories and thorough physical examinations.
• Formulate precise diagnoses for a range of rheumatic diseases.
• Design and implement comprehensive treatment strategies, including medication management, lifestyle adjustments, and therapeutic interventions.
• Interpret diagnostic tests such as imaging and laboratory analyses to guide informed decision-making.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including specialists, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, to provide holistic patient care.
• Communicate clearly with patients, explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and disease management strategies in an empathetic manner.
• Mentor medical students and residents as part of the UBC medical school training program.

Pay

Compensation is fee-for-service, with estimated earnings between $250,000 and $450,000 for a full-time rheumatologist. Overhead costs apply if launching a private practice.

• Eligibility for additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including:
  • Retention Premium: 11.48%
  • Retention Flat Fee: $17,790
  • Relocation Funding: $9,000 (within BC), $12,000 (within Canada), $15,000 (outside Canada).
  • Recruitment Incentive: $15,000 (prorated for part-time).
• Continuing Medical Education (CME) funding: $600 for up to 2 years, $3,600 during the 3rd and 4th years, and $6,600 after 4 years, in addition to Doctors of BC CME funds.

Rural incentives are subject to change and confirmed at the time of offer.

Flexible scheduling options are available, including part-time opportunities. Locum positions are also available for those interested in short-term assignments.
