Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) Department of Geriatrics has an opening for a full-time Geriatrician based in Duncan to join a team of 11 Geriatricians working across Vancouver Island.

About the Facility

Cowichan District Hospital is a 148-bed acute care facility set to expand to 182-204 beds by 2026. The hospital enjoys an exceptionally collegial atmosphere among general and specialty medical staff. As part of the interdisciplinary team, you will work with a geriatric psychiatrist, family physicians, local medical specialists, and Home and Community Care teams. The hospital is affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Island Medical Program, with opportunities for involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs. A UBC-affiliated appointment and membership in the Department of Geriatrics may be available.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient consultation to patients at Cowichan District Hospital up to 2 days per week, working with an RN functioning as a Seniors Nurse Consultant.
• Work within a growing interdisciplinary outpatient team, including a Nurse Practitioner, OT, and RN, 3 days per week as part of Geriatric Specialized Service.
• Opportunity to contribute to the design of senior services in the expanding hospital.
• Participate in teaching programs through UBC affiliation (undergraduate and postgraduate levels).

Requirements

• Hold, or be eligible for, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Geriatrics.
• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

Benefits

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including:

• Recruitment Incentive: $10,000 (full-time).
• Relocation Costs Reimbursement: Up to $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from).
• Fee Premium: 4.20%.
• Annual Flat Fee: $6,508.80.
• Rural CME: Starting at $3,000/annum in years 3 & 4, up to a maximum of $6,000/annum after 4 years.
