About the role
Michigan Paving and Materials, a vertically integrated CRH company, is seeking a summer intern in Mine Engineering. The intern season will begin between mid-May/early June 2027 and run through August 2027. The location is in Monroe, MI.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or trade school in a degree program related to the industry
- Minimum GPA of 2.75 or better
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check
- Must maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements
- Must have or be willing to obtain MSHA New Miner Training and FAA Part 107 Certification for sUAV Operator
- Must have the ability to work without close supervision
- High ethical standards
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Capable of utilizing the internet effectively for research and evaluation
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Must be 18 years or older and able to perform the job duties with or without accommodation
Responsibilities
- Collaborates and conducts with others geographical exploration by reviewing maps and drilling logs to determine location, size, accessibility and estimated volumes of deposits
- Assists in determining long-range planning designs and data
- Ability to detect safety hazards and respond accordingly
- Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency
- Operate sUAV for mine planning, topography mapping and stripping calculations
- Quality Control/Quality Assurance
- Spend time in field operations for aggregates
- Work with operations on monthly projections
- Shadow operations personnel to learn operational planning and aggregate objectives
- Work with crews and managers on blasting operations
