Basic Qualifications Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering technology. Engineering Interns must be enrolled in an accredited degree program in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline with a preference for a standing of a sophomore or higher. Responsibilities for this Position Systems Engineering Intern Unmanned Systems and Future Combatants (UFC)|Future Combatants and Mission Systems (FCMS) Position Overview The Future Combatants and Mission Systems (FCMS) group is seeking a motivated Systems Engineering Intern to support the design, development, integration, test, and fielding of advanced systems for the United States Navy and United States Coast Guard. FCMS operates within the Unmanned Systems and Future Combatants (UFC) business area and delivers mission-focused capabilities in a fast-paced engineering environment. Our engineers frequently contribute across the full product lifecycle—from early requirements definition and system architecture through integration, verification, deployment, and sustainment. This internship provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams and gain meaningful, hands-on exposure to real-world defense and maritime systems engineering. What You’ll Do As a Systems Engineering Intern, you may support activities such as: Assisting with the development, analysis, and management of system, subsystem, and interface requirementsSupporting system architecture development, trade studies, and technical design reviewsParticipating in integration and test activities for hardware, software, and mission-system componentsHelping develop verification and validation plans, procedures, and test documentationAnalyzing system performance, test results, and technical data to identify issues and recommend solutionsSupporting configuration management, technical documentation, and traceability activitiesCollaborating with systems, software, electrical, mechanical, test, manufacturing, and program teamsObserving or supporting fielding, customer demonstrations, and lifecycle sustainment activities, as program needs permitApplying engineering fundamentals to solve complex problems in support of Navy and Coast Guard missions What You’ll Learn This role is designed to provide broad systems engineering experience in a mission-driven environment. Interns can expect exposure to: The complete product lifecycle, from concept through fielded system supportRequirements engineering, system design, integration, and verification methodsCross-functional engineering collaborationTechnical reviews and engineering documentation practicesThe unique operational needs of U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard customersThe pace and discipline required to deliver reliable, mission-critical systems Basic Qualifications Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical disciplineInterest in systems engineering, defense systems, maritime platforms, unmanned systems, or mission systemsStrong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skillsAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative technical teamFamiliarity with Microsoft Office tools; experience with engineering, requirements-management, modeling, or test tools is a plusAbility to meet applicable requirements for work on U.S. government contracts Preferred Qualifications Coursework or project experience involving systems engineering, controls, communications, sensors, or software developmentFamiliarity with requirements traceability, system modeling, interface control, or test engineering conceptsExperience with tools such as MATLAB, Python, Simulink, Cameo/MagicDraw, DOORS, Jira, Git, or similar engineering toolsInterest in supporting maritime, naval, autonomous, or unmanned mission applications Target salary range: USD $0.01/Yr. - USD $0.02/Yr.
