About the role

This position is available at West Star Aviation, a leading independent MRO provider with multiple facilities across the United States. As an Interior Finish Technician, you will be responsible for various tasks related to aircraft interior finishes.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for interior finish processes, including wood finishes of assigned aircraft, varying amounts of gloss and satin applications, and sanding of hardwood as needed to apply finish.
  • Development and completion of aircraft interior cabinet finishes are the primary functions.
  • Absorb and apply basic knowledge of stains, lacquers, clear coats, and chemicals (thinners, catalysts, cleaners, etc.)
  • Assist with paint and techniques for major modification projects.
  • Identify colors and color matches as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop and surroundings.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment, and tooling.
  • Communicate effectively (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

  • A High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid drivers license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not required.
  • Experience: Technician I: 0-2 years’ experience in auto re-finish/collision repair or other similar trade dealing with the paint/finish processes. Technician II: 2-4 years’ experience in wood finishing processes on aircraft. Technician III: 5+ years’ experience in wood finishing processes on aircraft.
  • Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
  • Pass a respirator fit test.

Qualifications

  • Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, Hazmat, etc.
  • Read and comprehend various documents.
  • Plan and organize procedures and operations.
  • Supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of stains, lacquers, clear coats, etc.
  • Basic knowledge in chemicals (thinners, catalysts, cleaners, etc.) And safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of dry sanding and wet sanding, etc.
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases.
  • Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
  • Electrical power tools such as sanders, saws, power drills, etc.
  • Spray booth and all related equipment.
  • Computer, copy machine etc.
