Interior Finish Technician - 1202

About the role

This position is available as an Interior Finish Technician at West Star Aviation. We are a rapidly expanding MRO provider with multiple locations across the United States. The role involves responsibilities such as wood finishes, sanding, and maintenance of aircraft interiors.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for interior finish processes, including wood finishes of assigned aircraft, varying amounts of gloss and satin applications, and sanding of hardwood as needed.
• Completion of aircraft interior cabinet finishes.
• Afford assistance with paint and techniques for major modification projects.
• Identify colors and color matches as needed.
• Basic knowledge of stains, lacquers, clear coats, etc.
• Basic knowledge in chemicals (thinners, catalysts, cleaners, etc.) and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of dry sanding and wet sanding, etc.
• Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling.
• Basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
• Cleanliness of shop and surroundings.
• Work independently when required.
• Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
• Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

• A High school diploma or equivalent.
• A valid drivers license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not required.
• Experience: Technician I: 0-2 years’ experience in auto re-finish/collision repair or other similar trade dealing with the paint/finish processes. Technician II: 2-4 years’ experience in wood finishing processes on aircraft. Technician III: 5+ years’ experience in wood finishing processes on aircraft.
• Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
• Reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
• Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
• Pass a respirator fit test.

Qualifications

Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day. Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines. Work with others in a professional manner. Read and comprehend various documents. Plan and organize procedures and operations. Maintain customer-oriented work habits. Assist in major modification work as needed.

Skills

• Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, Hazmat, etc.
• Physical Requirements: Lifts 50 lbs. Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting. Routing or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands with emphasis on grasping, feeling and finger dexterity. Standing for long periods of time. Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas. Pass a respirator fit test.
• Mental Requirements: Understand and implement regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, Hazmat, etc. Work with others in a professional manner. Read and comprehend various documents. Plan and organize procedures and operations. Supervise work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Interior Management. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity. Work with minimal supervision when required. Work independently when required.
