About the role

This position is available at West Star Aviation, a leading MRO provider with multiple locations across the United States. We are currently seeking an Interior Finish Technician to join our dynamic team.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for interior finish processes, including wood finishes of assigned aircraft, varying amounts of gloss and satin applications, and sanding of hardwood as needed to apply finish.
  • Development and completion of aircraft interior cabinet finishes are the primary functions.
  • Absorb and implement paint and techniques for major modification projects.
  • Identify colors and color matches as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of stains, lacquers, clear coats, etc.
  • Basic knowledge in chemicals (thinners, catalysts, cleaners, etc.) and safety procedures.
  • Basic knowledge in paints and spraying equipment.
  • Knowledge of dry sanding and wet sanding, etc.
  • Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment and tooling.
  • Basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
  • Cleanliness of shop and surroundings.
  • Work independently when required.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
  • Assist with other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

  • A High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid drivers license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not required.
  • Technician I: 0-2 years’ experience in auto re-finish/collision repair or other similar trade dealing with the paint/finish processes.
  • Technician II: 2-4 years’ experience in wood finishing processes on aircraft.
  • Technician III: 5+ years’ experience in wood finishing processes on aircraft.
  • Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
  • Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
  • Maintain customer-oriented work habits.
  • Assist in major modification work as needed.

Qualifications

  • Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, Hazmat, etc.
  • Work with others in a professional manner.
  • Read and comprehend various documents.
  • Plan and organize procedures and operations.
  • Supervise work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Interior Management.
  • Work with minimal supervision when required.
  • Assist in major modification work as needed.

Skills

  • Lifts 50 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
  • Routing or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands with emphasis on grasping, feeling and finger dexterity.
  • Standing for long periods of time.
  • Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas.
  • Pass a respirator fit test.
