About the role

As an Interior Cabinet Technician at West Star, you will fabricate complex, high-quality furniture and wood-surfaced subassemblies for installation in world-class business aircraft. Primary functions include modifications, repair, refurbishment, and fabrication of aircraft cabinets. Daily duties vary and are assigned by the Team Leader overseeing each project.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general mechanical functions on aircraft cabinets and related systems, including removal, installation, modification, re-laminating, veneering, and fabrication of new cabinets
  • Execute minor modifications
  • Complete daily turnover sheets
  • Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment, and tooling
  • Navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases using basic computer skills
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop and surroundings
  • Work independently when required
  • Communicate effectively in English (speaking, writing, reading)
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Tech I: 0-2 years of experience in aviation, auto, RV, marine, or related field (limited to no knowledge of the position; requires close supervision)
  • Tech II: 2-4 years of experience (considerable knowledge of the job; needs general supervision)
  • Tech III: 4-6 years of experience (full knowledge of the job; limited supervision required; can act as trainer/mentor)
  • Master Tech: 6+ years of experience in aviation interiors (subject matter expert with comprehensive knowledge)

Initiative & Responsibility

  • Self-motivated team player able to perform in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines
  • Reliable attendance, including overtime and weekend assignments
  • Notify supervisor in advance if unable to work
  • Reliable transportation to work daily
  • Adhere to Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and company/safety rules
  • Maintain customer-oriented work habits
  • Assist in major modification work as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting
  • Repetitive physical motion with arms and hands (grasping, feeling, finger dexterity)
  • Stand for long periods
  • Climb ladders and stairs
  • Work in small, restricted areas

Mental Requirements

  • Understand and implement regulations (e.g., OSHA, Hazmat)
  • Work professionally with others
  • Read and comprehend various documents
  • Plan and organize procedures and operations

Supervision

  • Work under the supervision of an assigned Team Leader and Interior Management
  • May supervise other technicians in some capacity
  • Work with minimal supervision when required

Working Conditions

  • Majority of work performed in a hangar or shop environment
  • Occasional work outside on the ramp
  • Varied positions in and around the aircraft

Equipment Used

  • Personal hand tools (supplied by the mechanic)
  • Electrical power tools (e.g., sanders, saws, power drills)
  • Computer, copy machine, etc.
