About the role

As an Interior Cabinet Technician at West Star, you will fabricate complex, high-quality furniture and wood-surfaced subassemblies for installation in world-class business aircraft. Primary functions include modifications, repair, refurbishment, and fabrication of aircraft cabinets. Daily duties vary and are assigned by the Team Leader overseeing each project.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general mechanical functions on aircraft cabinets and related systems, including removal, installation, modification, re-laminating, veneering, and fabrication of new cabinets.
  • Perform minor modifications.
  • Complete daily turnover sheets.
  • Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment, and tooling.
  • Navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases using basic computer skills.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop and surroundings.
  • Work independently when required.
  • Communicate effectively in English (speaking, writing, reading).
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience levels:
    • Tech I: 0-2 years in aviation, auto, RV, marine, or related field (limited/no knowledge; requires close supervision).
    • Tech II: 2-4 years (considerable knowledge; needs general supervision).
    • Tech III: 4-6 years (full knowledge; limited supervision required; can act as trainer/mentor).
    • Master Tech: 6+ years in aviation interiors (subject matter expert; comprehensive knowledge).
  • Self-motivated team player able to perform in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints.
  • Reliable attendance, including overtime and weekend assignments; must notify supervisor in advance if unable to work.
  • Reliable transportation to work daily.
  • Work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and company/safety rules.
  • Maintain customer-oriented work habits.
  • Assist in major modification work as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
  • Repetitive physical motion with arms and hands, emphasizing grasping, feeling, and finger dexterity.
  • Stand for long periods.
  • Climb ladders and stairs; work in small, restricted areas.

Mental Requirements

  • Understand and implement regulations and guidelines (e.g., OSHA, Hazmat).
  • Work professionally with others.
  • Read and comprehend various documents.
  • Plan and organize procedures and operations.

Supervision

  • Work under the supervision of an assigned Team Leader and Interior Management.
  • May supervise other technicians in some capacity.
  • Work with minimal supervision when required.

Working Conditions

  • Majority of work performed in a hangar or shop environment.
  • Occasional work outside on the ramp.
  • Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

  • Personal hand tools (supplied by the mechanic).
  • Electrical power tools (e.g., sanders, saws, power drills).
  • Computer, copy machine, and other office equipment.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $20-$35. Actual rate varies based on factors including location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation includes a shift differential for alternate shifts, a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
