INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES - TEACHER ASSISTANT 188 DAY

About the role

This position is paraprofessional work that requires the teacher assistant to assist the classroom teacher in performing a variety of tasks after training, i.e., emergency plans, health-related plans/services, and carrying out instructional procedures. This position performs work under the direct supervision of the teacher, building administrator, and appropriate Special Education Department administrator.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing lesson plans and activities
• Support students with special needs in academic and social settings
• Help maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment
• Participate in planning and preparing for lessons
• Provide support during group and individual instruction
• Assist in managing student behavior and classroom management
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to enhance student learning

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License
• Current First Aid/CPR certification
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of special education principles and practices
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Qualifications

• Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred
• Previous experience as a paraprofessional or related field
• Passing score on a background check

Pay

Hiring Range: $21.12 - $33.82/hour ($27,793 - $44,503/year)
