AUTISM TEACHER ASSISTANT - 188 DAY

About the role

This position is paraprofessional work that requires the teacher assistant to assist the classroom teacher in performing a variety of tasks after training, i.e., emergency plans, health-related plans/services, and carrying out instructional procedures. This position performs work under the direct supervision of the teacher, building administrator, and appropriate Special Education Department administrator.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing classroom instruction and activities
• Support students with autism in following routines and schedules
• Help manage student behavior and provide positive reinforcement
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities
• Provide support in managing student health needs and emergency situations

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License
• Experience working with individuals with autism or similar disabilities preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
• Pass a background check and child abuse registry check

• Proficiency in using technology tools for special education

Hiring Range: $21.12 - $33.82/hour ($27,793 - $44,503/year)
