Instrument & Electrical Technician

Field operations are located throughout the Appalachian Basin in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, with expansion into Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

About the Role

The Instrument and Electrical Technician I will work as part of the I&E Team and larger IT field support group, interfacing daily with other IT department teams including SCADA and Internal Measurement, as well as Field Operations and Engineering support teams. This role provides field-level technical support in the design, installation, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all oil and gas facility process equipment.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, program, maintain, and troubleshoot oil and gas facility process equipment.
• Interface with SCADA, Internal Measurement, Field Operations, and Engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation, communication protocols (Hart, Modbus), and configuration software packages.
• Work with wireless networks including radios, cellular modems, switches, routers, and other network gear (e.g., Sierra Wireless, Freewave, MDS, Fortinet).
• Connect to and troubleshoot RTU and/or PLC programs (e.g., Fisher ROC/Floboss, ABB, Bristol Control Wave, Modicon, Allen Bradley).
• Open, load, and deploy local HMI programs (e.g., Beijer, Red Lion, Pro Face, Panel View).
• Troubleshoot and repair multiple types of artificial lift equipment (e.g., Plunger, POC, ESP).
• Troubleshoot electrical equipment ranging from 12 VDC to 600 VAC.
• Work with SCADA platforms (Cygnet preferred).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Associate’s or technical degree in instrumentation, automation, or process controls is preferred (equivalent experience considered).
• Oil and gas automation experience.
• Basic understanding of instruments, communication protocols, configuration software, and test devices.
• Experience with wireless networks and network gear.
• Ability to troubleshoot RTU/PLC programs and HMI programs.
• Basic knowledge of artificial lift equipment and electrical systems (12 VDC – 600 VAC).
• Understanding of SCADA platforms.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to move across job sites, remain stationary for extended periods, and frequently position oneself (stoop, kneel, squat).
• Occasional ascent/descent of ladders or uneven terrain.
• Ability to detect, perceive, and assess operations effectively (with or without corrective lenses).
• Operate a 4X4 vehicle.
• Repetitive movement of feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, and back.
• Constant use of hands and fingers for operational tasks.
• Work atop elevated surfaces and traverse various heights.
• Lift or carry 70 lbs. or more (classified as "Very heavy").
• Frequently push and pull with a maximum force of 150 ft./lbs.
• Work in outdoor weather conditions and varying environmental conditions, including well sites.

Driver Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Eligibility for company vehicle insurance policy.
• Adherence to traffic laws and company vehicle policies for work-related travel (company vehicle or personal vehicle stipend).
