About the role

The School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies (SHArCS) in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (New College) at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track First-Year Writing Instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 10 courses per year (5 courses/semester) in relevant areas.
  • Teach upper and/or lower-division courses to undergraduate students, in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats.
  • Prepare syllabus, lectures and class materials, exams, order textbooks, grade assignments and exams.
  • Maintain regular availability to students including office hours as appropriate to course modality.
  • Monitor student success and regularly respond to student academic issues.
  • Foster collegiality throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field of discipline or related field at time of hire.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students.
  • Expertise in developing and teaching courses online and in-person.
  • Experience with online delivery platforms such as Canvas or equivalent.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness – e.g., student evaluations, syllabi, peer observation, annual evaluations, etc.

Qualifications

  • Desired Qualifications: Teaching experience in Composition, English, or related fields at the time of hire.
