Columbus City Schools is an award-winning school district in Columbus, Ohio, with over 10,000 employees dedicated to educating more than 51,000 students across 100 schools. As an Instructional Assistant, you'll assist teachers and administrators in creating a supportive environment for students.

Responsibilities

  • Assists teachers and administrators in maintaining and restoring order and discipline in the school building and on grounds.
  • Restraints and/or transports disturbed students using non-offensive verbal and/or physical mediation skills.
  • Supervises student behavior throughout the school day, including hallways, lunchrooms, and playgrounds.
  • Aids in the supervision of students with special needs, promoting their interaction with typical peers and development of independence.
  • Assists in the preparation of classroom materials and accompanies students to other locations within the building.
  • Works with identified students in areas of reading and/or math, assisting classroom teachers in reinforcing material and skills.
  • Maintains academic progress records and alerts teachers to special needs or relevant information concerning students.

Requirements

  • Must have an Associate's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, or at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours from an accredited institution, or pass the Ohio Department of Education approved Parapro exam.
  • Prior to application completion, please attach an OFFICIAL transcript or copy of degree indicating field of study, if applicable.
  • Strong desire and willingness to assist teachers and administrators in serving a diverse student population.
  • The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, co-workers, and supervisors.

Qualifications/Licensure

  • Must have an Educational Aide Permit from the Ohio Department of Education.

  • Passing a criminal record check is required.
