Installation Superintendent -Kenilworth, NJ

About the role

As an Installation Superintendent at Diversified, you will serve as the key field position for on-site direction of work and the actual installation activities on technology projects for our clients. This role combines the responsibilities of a Senior Install Technician and an On-site Project Manager, focusing on managing all installation activity at the job site. While you will not directly manage personnel, you will oversee installation projects to ensure they are completed on time, without interruptions, and to the highest quality standards. You will work closely with project managers and installation staff to resolve roadblocks and ensure successful project completion.

Responsibilities

• Possess all skills from the Senior Install Technician position to drive successful completion, quality control, and goal achievement.
• Oversee all on-site activity on active project job sites and address issues to meet quality and timeline standards.
• Lead and delegate tasks to multiple install crews, subcontractors, and union trades, often managing large projects.
• Oversee all field operations and report progress, status, and issues to the project manager.
• Supervise the physical installation of a wide variety of technology into diverse locations.
• Maintain quality control on the job site, checking all work from employees, subcontractors, and union trades, and managing discrepancies to meet company standards.
• Read and understand functional design drawings and cable riser diagrams.
• Provide consistent technical performance and flexibility in work schedule, including periodic overtime, weekends, and extended overtime to meet deadlines.
• Complete assignments in accordance with or better than established task durations and estimate task durations to meet deadlines.
• Provide daily feedback to the Project Manager.
• Build and wire custom panels from engineering drawings.
• Handle, install, terminate, and test advanced fiber optic cables.
• Provide training and assistance to on-site install technicians.
• Track and maintain toolkits, job material boxes, company vehicles, and materials inventories, ensuring clean, orderly, and well-documented records.
• Track and maintain personal licenses, certifications, and qualifications (note: some states have specific requirements).
• Maintain daily records of time worked on specific projects for timesheet entry.
• Maintain an activity log and a personnel log for skills to report on recommended improvements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• AVIXA CTS Certification (required).
• AVIXA CTS-I Certification (highly encouraged).
• Five or more years of experience as an installation technician or in a related industry.
• Valid driver’s license and adherence to insurance requirements.
• OSHA 30 Certificate (required); NYC OSHA 30 (preferred).
• Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on the technology focus of the position.

Skills

• Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video, and networking equipment.
• Knowledge of low voltage electrical concepts.
• Advanced AV installation skills.
• Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems.
• High level of technical and interpersonal skills, along with excellent communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions on job sites.
• Good diplomacy in working with clients and other key stakeholders.

Physical Demands

• Regular exposure to construction site conditions; compliance with all safety regulations and use of PPE is required.
• Typically spend at least 60% of time on your feet and mobile around the construction site.
• Ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs, and lift/move materials up to 40 pounds.
• Regular use of keyboards, test equipment, and controls required for system integration installation projects.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• When not on construction sites, normal office conditions apply, including use of office equipment such as computers and peripherals.

Travel

• Frequent travel by car and occasional airplane trips are required; must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Use of personal vehicle is required; reimbursement for mileage at the current corporate rate is provided.
• Local travel to job sites (within a 2-hour driving distance each way) makes up 70-90% of travel, but remote travel can account for up to 30% at times.
• 10% remote travel is required on a regular basis; occasional travel by airplane for out-of-town projects is also required.

• Ensure hazards are addressed and rectified in a timely manner.
