About the role

The Installation Superintendent is responsible for performing a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects for our clients. This position is the key field role for on-site direction of work and the actual installation activity in our clients’ buildings. The Installation Superintendent coordinates closely with project management, building contractors, and others to manage all on-site installation activity. This role combines Senior Install Technician and On-site Project Manager responsibilities, focusing on installation activity at the job site. While this position does not directly manage personnel, it oversees installation projects to ensure timely completion without interruptions. The role is critical in resolving roadblocks and ensuring the highest quality of installation work.

Responsibilities

• Possess all skills from the Senior Install Technician position to drive successful completion, quality control, and goal achievement.
• Oversee all on-site activity on active project job sites and address issues to meet quality and timeline standards.
• Lead and delegate tasks to multiple install crews, subcontractors, and union trades; regularly lead teams on large projects.
• Oversee all field operations and report progress, status, and issues to the project manager.
• Supervise the physical installation of a wide variety of technology into diverse locations.
• Maintain quality control on the job site, checking all work from employees, subcontractors, and union trades; manage discrepancies in standards.
• Read and understand functional design drawings and cable riser diagrams.
• Provide consistent technical performance and flexibility in work schedule, including periodic overtime, weekends, and extended overtime to meet deadlines.
• Complete assignments in accordance with or better than established task durations; estimate task durations to meet deadlines.
• Provide daily feedback to the Project Manager.
• Build and wire custom panels from engineering drawings.
• Handle, install, terminate, and test advanced fiber optic cables.
• Provide training and assistance to on-site install technicians.
• Track and maintain toolkits, job material boxes, company vehicles, and materials inventories; keep documentation clean and orderly.
• Track and maintain personal licenses, certifications, and qualifications (some states have specific requirements).
• Maintain daily records of time worked on specific projects for timesheet entry.
• Maintain an activity log and personnel log for skills to report recommended improvements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• AVIXA CTS Certification (required).
• AVIXA CTS-I Certification (highly encouraged).
• Five or more years as an installation technician or in a related industry.
• Valid driver’s license and adherence to insurance requirements.
• OSHA 30 Certificate (required); NYC OSHA 30 (preferred).
• Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on technology focus.

Skills

• Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video, and networking equipment.
• Knowledge of low voltage electrical concepts.
• Advanced AV installation skills.
• Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems.
• High level of technical and people skills, along with excellent communication abilities.
• Good judgment and decision-making for independent on-site work.
• Diplomacy in working with clients and key stakeholders.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that may be met by an employee. The employee may be exposed to construction site conditions regularly and must comply with all safety regulations, including the use of PPE. The role typically requires spending at least 60% of time on their feet and being mobile around the construction site. The employee must occasionally climb ladders, use stairs, and lift or move materials up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. When not on construction sites, the employee will experience normal office conditions.

Travel

Frequent travel by car and occasional airplane trips are required. The employee must possess a valid driver’s license and use their own vehicle, with reimbursement for mileage at the current corporate rate. Local travel to job sites (within a 2-hour driving distance each way) makes up 70-90% of travel, but remote travel can account for up to 30% of the job. Occasional travel by airplane for out-of-town projects is required, with 10% remote travel on a regular basis.
