What You'll Do
- Follow all company and OSHA safety procedures — attend safety meetings and participate in the safety program
- Own customer relations and retention at the scales — greet customers, analyze products for purchase, and handle overrides as needed
- Field all inbound calls and deliver fast, knowledgeable customer service — quote requests answered in 30 minutes or less
- Cold call potential new customers, build a tracking database, and report weekly on sales performance and pipeline activity
- Aid buyers with customer needs and help grow the book of business through relationship-building and follow-through
- Plan and coordinate customer appreciation events and conduct customer surveys to improve retention
- Operate both ferrous and nonferrous scales with full working knowledge of processes and systems
- Stay current on state and local scrap metal recycling regulations — know what we can and can’t buy and enforce compliance at the facility
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 2 years of sales, retail, or customer service experience — or a bachelor’s degree in a business-related field
- Proven ability to develop new customers and maintain and grow existing relationships
- Strong communicator — excellent verbal and written skills, comfortable on the phone and in person
- Organized and detail-oriented — able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines without dropping the ball
- Able to work independently and as part of a team — self-starter who doesn’t need hand-holding
- Computer proficient — Microsoft Excel, Word, and ability to learn in-house systems
- Able to work well under pressure and meet critical deadlines
- Flexible to work overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Comfortable in an industrial environment with some outdoor exposure in all weather conditions
