About the role

This position is for an Inpatient Staff Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) within the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a medical/surgical inpatient setting.
• Deliver fundamental, knowledge-based care as a Nurse I - Level I.
• Adhere to the Dimension requirements for practice, veteran/patient-driven care, leadership, professional development, and evidence-based practice/research as outlined in the VA Handbook 5005.

Requirements

• Proficiency in basic written and spoken English (38 U.S.C. 7403(f)).
• Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by either:
  • The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), or
  • The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
• For graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing:
  • Possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration meets the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
  • Credit for foreign nursing education higher than associate degree/entry level requires formal degree equivalency validation (e.g., International Consultants of Delaware).

Qualifications

• Nurse I - Level I: Delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care. Scope and education align with entry-level nursing practice.
• Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who meet basic education requirements but lack licensure may be appointed on a 120-day temporary basis (extendable up to two years) while pursuing licensure.
• Grandfathering Provision: All current VHA employees in the 0610 series performing duties as described in the qualification standard (effective 1/29/2024) are considered to have met all requirements for their current grade.
