Inpatient Facility Nursing Assistant

About the role

The Inpatient Facility Nursing Assistant at 3HC Home Health and Hospice is responsible for providing personal care and related services following a plan of care established by clinical supervision. This position operates on a PRN schedule.

Responsibilities

• Provides or assists patient in bathing, hair care, shaving, oral hygiene, toileting and dressing.
• Aid in feeding the patient when necessary.
• Assist with simple range-of-motion exercises, transfers, turning and walking.
• Administers personal care and hygiene as per the care plan.
• Assists with treatments and procedures such as changing dry dressings, measuring intake and output, administering disposable enemas, taking vital signs, applying TED hose, collecting urine specimens, applying hot/cold compresses.
• Administers personal care and hygiene as per the care plan.
• Assists with treatments and procedures such as sterile dressing changes, wound irrigations, urinary catheterization and irrigation, ostomy care, suctioning, trach care, oxygen therapy maintenance, removing fecal impactions, adding internal feedings, administering G-tube feedings, clamping feeding tubes, discontinuing oral/gastric or naso/gastric feeding tubes, assembling and flushing IV tubing, observing flow rate of IV fluids, discontinuing peripheral IV infusions, and finger-stick blood glucose testing.
• Acts as a facilities preceptor for new employees, demonstrating and teaching all inpatient facility procedures, observing for accuracy, and ensuring new employees know where all supplies are located and how to use them.
• Completes document via EMR each shift, checks all outstanding tasks, and completes them before the end of the shift.
• Performs housekeeping tasks including tidying bedrooms, mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, showers, toilets, and sinks as needed.
• Changes patient's bed linens and performs other tasks as needed or assigned.
• Moves and cares for bariatric patients using a Hoyer lift.
• Reports and records changes in the patient's mental or physical condition to supervisor.
• Demonstrates accurate use of bleach for cleaning heat-sensitive objects and linens.
• Adheres to 3HC's Personnel Policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Licensed as a CNA with DHSR, evidenced by successfully completed training and not having a lapse of 24 consecutive months where the aid has not provided services for compensation.
• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Physically competent to perform delegated tasks necessary to good patient care and as indicated inpatient's plan of care.
• Dependable and capable of dealing pleasantly and tactfully with patient, family, staff, and the public.

Skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of infection control and sterilization techniques.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate records.
• Basic computer literacy for using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
