About the role
Fuss & O'Neill's Manufacturing Solutions team is seeking a hands-on Industrial Services Specialist to support the full lifecycle of machine safety projects for manufacturers in New England.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive machine risk assessments for new and existing manufacturing equipment.
Evaluate equipment against OSHA and ANSI machine safety standards.
Identify hazards, document findings, and develop prioritized corrective action plans.
Provide practical recommendations that improve safety while maintaining operational efficiency.
Design custom machine guards, barriers, and safety enclosures using CAD software.
Develop guarding solutions utilizing materials such as polycarbonate, sheet metal, and wire mesh.
Support or perform fabrication, installation, fit-up, and modifications in manufacturing environments.
Verify installed guarding meets both functional and regulatory requirements.
Integrate machine safety devices including light curtains, safety interlocks, emergency stop systems, pressure-sensitive mats, and other safeguarding technologies.
Configure and troubleshoot safety relays and safety PLCs.
Interface guarding systems with existing machine controls and automation systems.
Commission and validate integrated safety systems to verify proper operation.
Develop and maintain equipment-specific Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Conduct OSHA 1910.147 energy control audits.
Provide technical training on machine guarding and LOTO best practices.
Support additional manufacturing safety initiatives including equipment inspections, compliance audits, and continuous safety improvements.
Collect electrical infrastructure information.
Coordinate electrical system analysis.
Perform or provide electrical safety training for qualified employees.
Requirements
Associate degree or higher in a related technical discipline required. Demonstrated hands-on experience with machine guarding, machinery safety, industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, or a related field strongly preferred. Familiarity of OSHA General Industry Standards and ANSI B11 standards. Working knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD for designing machine guards and safety solutions strongly preferred. Experience with industrial automation, electrical schematics, safety PLCs, safety relays, and machine control integration strongly preferred. Ability to support the design, fabrication installation, troubleshooting, and commission machine guarding systems in manufacturing environments. Comfortable working hands-on with production equipment and using tools for guard installation, adjustment, and modifications. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with manufacturing, maintenance, and operations teams.
