About the role

The General Foreman / Safety Lead oversees and directs multiple field crews performing process maintenance activities including conveyor belt installation, vulcanized and mechanical belt splicing, rubber repair, and industrial maintenance support across various industries.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate multiple field crews performing preventative maintenance tasks, conveyor belt installation, repair, vulcanized and mechanical splicing, pulley lagging, steel lining, and rubber lining.
  • Provide overall project leadership and direction to Foremen, Lead Technicians, maintenance personnel, and field crews.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate daily project activities to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules and client expectations.
  • Oversee workforce assignments, manpower planning, equipment utilization, and material requirements across assigned projects.
  • Monitor project productivity, quality, safety performance, and workforce effectiveness while implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for clients, project stakeholders, subcontractors, and company management.
  • Ensure compliance with all contract requirements, project specifications, company policies, and client expectations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific safety plans, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Conduct and document regular safety inspections, audits, observations, and field evaluations of work areas, equipment, tools, and personnel.
  • Maintain safety documentation including inspection reports, training records, incident reports, corrective action logs, JHAs, AHAs, site-specific safety requirements, and regulatory compliance records.
  • Monitor and evaluate project safety performance metrics, identify trends, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support onboarding, site orientations, and safety training for employees, subcontractors, and visitors assigned to project sites.
  • Complete and maintain required operational documentation including daily reports, project logs, safety inspections, incident reports, manpower reports, equipment reports, QA/QC documentation, and project performance records.
  • Coordinate procurement and maintenance of tools, vehicles, equipment, and safety supplies required for project execution.
  • Train, mentor, and coach Foremen, technicians, and crew members on leadership development, safe work practices, technical procedures, quality standards, and hazard recognition.
  • Communicate project progress, workforce performance, safety concerns, schedule impacts, and operational needs to the Superintendent and company leadership.
  • Professionally represent the company with customers and clients while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Seek and participate in training and development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in conveyor belting, process maintenance, mechanical maintenance, rubber repair, or heavy industrial maintenance.
  • Experience performing vulcanized and mechanical belt splicing.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in a Foreman, General Foreman, Superintendent, or equivalent field leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading safety programs, conducting safety inspections, facilitating safety meetings, and overseeing regulatory compliance.
  • Current MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 certification.
  • OSHA 30 Construction or General Industry certification.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company's Driving Policy.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to meet requirements for industrial and mining work sites.
  • Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screening.

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of conveyor belt systems, vulcanized and mechanical splicing methods, rubber repair, pulley lagging, rubber lining, mills and liners, and related maintenance practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of industrial maintenance systems and equipment including conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and related industrial components.
  • Strong understanding of conveyor system components including pulleys, idlers, scrapers, chutes, and related equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, belt specifications, splice procedures, work instructions, safety regulations, project schedules, and client requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, lockout/tagout procedures, hazard recognition, PPE requirements, incident prevention, industrial safety standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of safety management systems, behavior-based safety principles, incident investigation techniques, risk assessment processes, corrective action development, and safety auditing practices.
  • Ability to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and implement effective mitigation measures in dynamic industrial and mining environments.
  • Knowledge of project planning, workforce coordination, resource management, budgeting considerations, and project execution principles.
  • Familiarity with mining, industrial, oil & gas, and construction work environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills related to conveyor failures, belt mistracking, wear patterns, and system performance.
  • Proficient use of hand tools, power tools, vulcanizing equipment, and measuring devices.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead multiple crews, coordinate field activities, and maintain productivity in demanding work environments.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with crews, supervisors, subcontractors, vendors, customers, and client representatives.
  • Ability to conduct and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, pre-task planning sessions, audits, inspections, and employee training.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and develop Foremen, technicians, and crew members while reinforcing company procedures, quality expectations, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to investigate incidents, gather information, prepare reports, conduct root cause analyses, and communicate findings effectively.
  • Ability to complete operational and safety documentation accurately and communicate project status effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple crews, competing priorities, and changing site conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision in remote or site-based environments.
  • Ability to solve problems under pressure and make sound operational and safety-related decisions.
  • Ability to maintain a positive team-oriented attitude and represent the company professionally.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including long shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.
