Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform eligibility determination functions for Food and Nutrition Services.
  • Perform a wide range of tasks in the eligibility determination/redetermination process.
  • Prepare and present summaries of the agency’s evidence for local and state appeal hearings.
  • May be assigned other duties in other program work areas as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of NC FAST and Social Service programs.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and interpret automated system problems.
  • Ability to communicate with clients/applicants, the public, and public officials.
  • Ability to perform caseworker functions within structured time frames.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker.
  • A degree from an accredited college or university, or an associate’s degree in accounting, business administration, human services, secretarial science, or a closely related field, with at least two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience.
  • A high school diploma and at least five years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience.

Prior Experience

  • A minimum of three or more years direct experience in Food and Nutrition Services program.
  • A minimum of three or more years of Department of Social Services experience.
  • NC Fast Core and FNS Level One Certification preferred.
