About the role
Caseworkers are responsible for the process of determining initial eligibility for all Income Maintenance programs including Adult and Family & Children's Medicaid, Refugee Assistance, Low Income Subsidy, and applications from the Federally Facilitated Marketplace. They interview clients to obtain required information, complete initial applications, verify the information, determine eligibility, and complete scheduled program reviews/changes in circumstance. They explain program requirements and options and advise or refer clients to other program services as appropriate.
Responsibilities

- Determining eligibility
- Maintaining cases for Medicaid, Low Income Subsidy, and the Federally Facilitated Marketplace
- Explaining program requirements and options
- Referencing clients to other appropriate agencies or community programs
- Documenting findings and status of the case
- Preparing and presenting information at local hearings and state appeal hearings
- Serving as Shelter manager during emergencies/disasters
- Issuing fishing licenses and registering applicants/clients to vote
- Assisting with other programs as needed
Requirements
- Excellent computer skills sufficient to use NC FAST, NC's online management system, as well as various other search engines and software programs
- Excellent interviewing, listening, reasoning, organizational and computational skills with the ability to read, comprehend and evaluate documents from a multitude of sources
- The ability to manage and work independently, be extremely organized yet sufficiently flexible to meet unplanned assigned work
- The ability to perform functions within structured timeframes
- The ability to communicate effectively with applicants/clients, the public at large, public officials and other agencies to obtain data, explain and interpret rules, regulations and procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field, Business or Communication; or 2-year associate degree from a community college; or 1 year experience as a caseworker with direct client contact
- Additional training/experience: experience in certain related agencies, health care agencies, and volunteer work with helping organizations such as Red Cross, part time workers in LIEAP or any other type that is based on need criteria
- Bilingual applicants with fluency in Spanish are encouraged to apply
- Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina
