About the role

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. As a General Merchandise and Food Sales team member, you’ll lead inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. You’ll also oversee Food & Beverage and Food Service, ensuring a fresh and food-safe experience. This role involves pick, pack, and ship fulfillment, as well as unloading trailer deliveries and preparing merchandise for the sales floor.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a consistent guest experience by ensuring every team member understands and executes Target’s guest experience commitments.
  • Observe and provide feedback to team members, holding them accountable while recognizing great guest experiences.
  • Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, improve execution, and celebrate wins.
  • Execute daily/weekly workload to meet department and store sales goals and guest engagement targets.
  • Lead operations, freshness, accuracy, and efficiency with guidance from your direct leader.
  • Set clear goals and expectations, holding team members accountable to them.
  • Use workload planning tools to ensure areas are guest-ready at store open.
  • Assign daily tasks based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns.
  • Assess GM backroom and sales floor areas to identify and resolve gaps.
  • Lead and follow up on organizational and operational changes with guidance from your direct leader.
  • Build and develop a team of GM Experts from selection through onboarding and learning.
  • Train and direct team members, providing feedback on work completion.
  • Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and creating equitable experiences.
  • Model ethical conduct, safety, and compliance, holding others accountable to these standards.
  • Lead a safety culture by modeling safe behaviors, correcting hazards, and reporting injuries accurately.
  • Support merchandise protection strategies, including ordering, storage, and application.
  • Assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities as needed to enable the guest experience.
  • Address store and offsite emergency and compliance needs.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick-up (OPU), and Drive-Up (DU) while maintaining compliance.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Age 18 or older.
  • Previous retail experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to current technology needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong workload and task management skills.
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.

  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting, carrying, and moving merchandise up to 44 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive bending, twisting, reaching, and rotating motions.
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays); reliable and prompt attendance required.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements.
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.

Skills

  • Guest service fundamentals and experience building a guest-first culture.
  • Retail business fundamentals, including department sales trends, inventory management, and pricing strategies.
  • Planning daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver sales goals.
  • Leading a team of hourly team members, including interviewing, developing, coaching, evaluating, and retaining talent.
