About the role
This is a critical position that works on our US Postal Service security and alarm monitoring team. It provides 24/7 continuous monitoring and emergency dispatch services for USPS hubs, outlets, offices and distribution centers.
Responsibilities
- Perform security and alarm system monitoring, and event logging and recording of centrally managed IDS systems.
- Radio monitoring, and non-emergency and emergency dispatching, incident reporting, and utilization of investigative databases.
- Manage and prioritize tasks from multiple simultaneous sources (radio, telephone, alarm monitoring software, etc.).
- Initiate internal and external law enforcement response based on defined criteria.
- Maintain professionalism under highly stressful situations.
- Provide quality customer service to internal and external parties.
- Monitor biological detection systems (BDS) and initiate dissemination of information.
- Communicate clear and concise information via telephone and radio communications.
- Access and communicate intelligence data maintained in internal and external databases.
- Query, enter, and update electronic records.
- Ensure the accuracy of information stored in the alarm database.
Requirements
- Possess strong computer and data entry skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Able to type a minimum of 45 words per minute (WPM).
- Able to manage and prioritize tasks from multiple simultaneous sources (radio, telephone, alarm monitoring software, etc.).
- Effectively monitor radio communications.
- Provide timely response to requests for information.
- Able to sit for an extended period of time while monitoring multiple computer monitors.
- Able to read and comprehend the English language; including, printed regulations, written instructions, training material, etc.
- Able to write reports, and document events in a concise and accurate manner. This includes the ability to proofread all documentation for grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Able to speak the English language clearly and fluently.
- Able to provide quality customer service while communicating with internal and external parties.
- Able to hear ordinary telephone and radio conversations with either ear.
Qualifications
- Prioritize experience with alarm monitoring and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software.
- Obtain dispatcher certification within nine (9) months of assignment that is equivalent to the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Law Enforcement Communications (LEC) certification.
- Obtain and maintain National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/ National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems (NLETS) Limited Certification within six (6) months of NLECC start date.
Skills
- Prioritize experience with alarm monitoring and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software.
- Obtain dispatcher certification within nine (9) months of assignment that is equivalent to the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Law Enforcement Communications (LEC) certification.
- Obtain and maintain National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/ National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems (NLETS) Limited Certification within six (6) months of NLECC start date.
Benefits
- This role is a full time, hourly position so comes with full benefits and is available for overtime.
Pay
The pay range for this role is $28.00 - $35.00 per hour.
Schedule
This role is available for 24x7x365 days per year service to the USPS, so candidates must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays across 3-day shifts.
