About the Role
The successful candidate will work on animal patients in the Small Animal Emergency Medicine Unit of the Veterinary Medical Center. The College's vision is to be the destination for teaching, innovation, care, and service.
Responsibilities
- Monitor temperature, pulse, and respiration of animal patients
- Monitor IV fluid administration
- Walk animals outside
- Clean ward areas and stock supplies
- Process lab samples and medication orders
- Enter charges in the hospital information system
- Assist clinicians, veterinary technicians, and clinical students with animal patients
Requirements
- Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education
- Six months to one year of related work experience in a veterinary practice
- Experience maintaining accurate records, typing, and basic computer skills
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Qualifications
- Experience with general handling of cats and dogs
- Knowledge of animal restraint for blood collection and IV catheter placement
- Positioning for X-rays and IV fluid monitoring
- Previous exposure to monitoring equipment such as IV fluid pumps, EKG, Pulse oximeter, and Doppler blood pressure
Schedule
Two, 10-hour shifts. Shifts available from 8am–6pm, 2pm–12am, or 10pm–8am.
Physical Demands
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs individually or up to 150 lbs as a team
Health Risks
- Potential exposure to animal or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis
- Work with animals or unfixed animal tissue
- Wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort)
