ICU Registered Nurse (Days)

About the Role

A staff Registered Nurse (RN) directs and/or performs nursing care to assigned patients within the scope of their license, reporting to the charge nurse on the unit. This role involves prescribing, delegating, and coordinating nursing care for critically ill patients.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate appropriate assessment and knowledge of critically ill patients.
• Assist providers with procedures, including arterial lines, central line placement, and ventilators.
• Implement patient care according to planned interventions to attain optimal patient function and document per policy.
• Maintain positive customer service relations.
• Participate in Quality Improvement projects and support continuous departmental improvement.
• Assist co-workers as needed or requested.
• Support the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Philosophy.
• Demonstrate efficient and appropriate unit staffing, adjusting levels as needed and using resources effectively.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Serve as a sitter when needed, following designated training.
• Perform other essential duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current or eligible RN license in the state of Missouri (or graduate nurse eligibility).
• Self-motivated with the ability to work within established policies, procedures, and practices.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification (required).
• Current AHA ACLS certification (required or obtained within 6 months).
• TNCC certification (required or obtained within 12 months).

Physical/Mental Requirements

• Ability to sit and stand intermittently for up to 12 hours a day.
• Use standard office equipment, including telephones and computer keyboards.
• Work under pressure with near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
• Continuous use of manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and eye/hand coordination; color definition required.
• Occasional reaching above shoulder level.
• Regularly lift and/or carry up to 35 lbs.
• Occasional walking on uneven surfaces.
