HVAC Truck Based Journeymen Mechanic (union)
About the role
Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking skilled HVAC Mechanics to support the growth of the HVAC business in North America. Candidates must have practical work experience in the HVAC industry, including light commercial and/or heavy commercial mechanical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
- Partner with Journeymen in the repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, and absorption machines, open-drive screw chillers, and ammonia systems.
- Provide solutions and recommendations to ensure facility efficiency, including upselling opportunities.
- Write and communicate quotes to customers and participate in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
- Pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
- Invest in career development through training programs and on-the-job training.
- Prioritize safety in all forms.
Requirements
- Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in HVAC and related industries.
- Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
- Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
- Able to install complete systems, including chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and supporting mechanical systems.
- Use mechanical shaft alignment tools and vibration equipment for troubleshooting.
- Travel up to 20% to support branch customers activities, trouble shooting, installation, and repair.
Qualifications
- Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver's license.

Benefits
Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. This is a Bargaining Unit Position but is subject to all pre-hiring screening by JCI. With successful performance, JCI may recommend candidates to the Union Local apprenticeship program, as well as continued employment at JCI. Acceptance by the Union Local must occur within 365 days of employment or will result in termination of this position.
Pay
The pay rate is $27.23 per hour, determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement/rate sheet.
