HVAC Truck Based Chiller Journeyman Mechanic (union)

About the role

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking skilled HVAC Technicians to support the growth of their HVAC business in North America. This position offers opportunities to work on cutting-edge facilities, HVAC chillers, and commercial products.

Responsibilities

• Provide the highest level of service to solve facility inefficiencies and resolve service-related issues.
• Act as a trusted advisor to customers, providing solutions and outcomes during commissioning and aftermarket service.
• Offer recommendations and solutions to ensure facility efficiency, including upselling opportunities.
• Generate quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

Requirements

• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• At least 12 years of practical experience on air cooled and/or water-cooled chillers, industrial chillers, AHU’s, or large roof-top ducted units.
• Able to lead complex repairs, jobs, or retrofits, and repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, absorption chillers, screw chillers, and/or ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
• Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
• Extensive experience in HVAC systems, including chilled water loops, pumping, compressor enthalpy, compressor troubleshooting, and rebuild.
• Proficient in mechanical shaft alignment, vibration equipment usage, and troubleshooting compressor drivelines.
• Skilled in operating, troubleshooting, and repairing large tonnage chillers, VSD’s, and various OEM chiller panels and controllers.
• Proficient in multiple control systems, including Allen Bradley, and able to adjust them.
• Able to travel up to 20% to support startup and commissioning activities and aftermarket service trouble-shooting.

• Able to write and communicate effectively about problems, causes, and corrective actions to customers.
• Able to generate quotes for customers and participate in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
• Self-starter with a passion for learning and applying new skills on the job.

Skills

• Universal EPA refrigerants license.
• Applicable state or local licensing.
• Valid driver's license.
