Summary

Install, repair and perform preventive maintenance of HVAC and related systems at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Provide lead direction to other building maintenance workers. Perform semi-skilled to skilled repairs and preventive maintenance to plumbing and electrical equipment and other building systems as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and perform preventive maintenance of HVAC and related systems.
  • Provide lead direction to other building maintenance workers.
  • Perform semi-skilled to skilled repairs and preventive maintenance to plumbing and electrical equipment and other building systems as needed.
  • Complete all associated paperwork.

Education & Experience

  • High school graduate/GED required with five years of experience or associate degree and three years’ experience in a relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.
  • NC State HVAC H2 or H3 license preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Read and write sufficiently to complete related paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, the traveling public and tenants.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to spend about 90% of time standing, bending, reaching, walking and driving.
  • The rest of the time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, climbing, lifting, shoveling and carrying.
  • Typically, would not lift or carry more than 50 lbs., however, occasional assisted lifts up to approximately 120 lbs., particularly when handling compressors.

General Information

  • Standard shift hours apply. Hours subject to change and overtime.
  • Works assigned shift, subject to emergency call back to work during emergencies, urgent situations, special events and inclement weather.
  • Must be available for work for a rotating weekend and holiday duty schedule.
  • Valid driver’s license with no more than 6 points and ability to qualify for City driving permit.

Conditions of Employment

  • The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
  • Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination.
  • Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.
