About the role

Under general supervision, you will conduct preventive maintenance, repair, installation, general servicing, and troubleshooting of mechanical HVAC systems. This role involves high levels of customer satisfaction through direct, on-site customer interaction. You will mentor peers on mechanical HVAC installation and service activities, complete required project and service documentation, and provide solutions to improve building efficiency and resolve service-related issues as a trusted advisor.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all pneumatic control systems and mechanical equipment service as assigned under the local union agreement, limited only by your capabilities as determined by the employer.
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facilities run efficiently, including upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
  • Conduct routine service and inspections of HVAC mechanical equipment, including:
    • Change and service filters
    • Oiling and greasing
    • Adjust or replace belts
    • Clean cooling towers, coils, evaporator and condenser tubes, and general housekeeping
    • Maintain mechanical systems under contract with the customer
    • Clean and perform routine maintenance of solar energy equipment
    • Perform Indoor Air Quality-related work, including duct systems and drain pans

Requirements

  • Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
  • Vocational school four-year program or an associate degree in mechanical systems, air conditioning, or a similar field.
  • 1+ years of industry experience or experience servicing mechanical systems in the HVAC industry.
  • Knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls professionally and ethically to customers and external contacts.
  • Ability to explain technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Leadership skills to support the activities of mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical mechanical HVAC equipment on job sites.
