About the role

Manage activities related to recruiting and onboarding, employee engagement, learning and development, compensation, benefits, wellness, payroll, recordkeeping, HR compliance, and possibly safety for an assigned location. Coordinate with Centers of Expertise, advise leaders on complex employee relations, and serve as a knowledgeable HR resource. May supervise a small team of HR support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead recruitment for hourly, professional, and management positions; serve as the primary resource for hiring managers.
  • Execute recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and temporary staffing plans in accordance with company standards.
  • Partner with managers to update job descriptions and guide candidates through the interview and selection process.
  • Triage critical staffing shortages and partner with outside agencies to conduct recruitment events.
  • Share job opportunities on social media in partnership with talent acquisition.
  • Lead and execute onboarding for new and repositioned employees, including supervisor-led training.
  • Facilitate talent management initiatives to drive engagement, build capabilities, and enhance retention.
  • Provide leadership in executing HR processes, practices, and policies.
  • Communicate HR practices and procedures to leaders and support performance, compensation, and corrective actions.
  • Partner with HR teams at the business unit and headquarters levels.
  • Develop recommendations for HR process improvements and document practices for consistency.
  • Provide employee relations support, addressing concerns and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Oversee and process payroll, ensuring timely execution.
  • Provide training and solution recommendations to leaders and employees.
  • Coordinate employee wellness and engagement activities, including action planning and participation in engagement initiatives.
  • Create and provide people analytics, including position control tracking, recruiting/hiring reports, turnover reports, and exit feedback.
  • Process personnel changes, including status, position, pay, and personal information updates.
  • Support Affirmative Action Planning and reporting.
  • Perform job analysis and advise leaders on compensation, job classification, and career pathing.
  • Maintain personnel files and manage Worker’s Compensation claims as needed.
  • Participate in safety and risk initiatives, including high-risk claims and safety complaints.
  • Maintain confidentiality related to organizational changes and sensitive HR information.
  • May supervise one to two exempt and/or non-exempt direct reports, including delegation, training, coaching, and performance management.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, or related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 to 8 years of progressive generalist human resources experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership attributes or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with HR information systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in a union environment may be required or preferred.
  • Human Resources certifications (e.g., PHR/SPHR, SHRM, HRCI) preferred.

Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Human Resources principles, concepts, and practices.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local HR and payroll requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and HRIS systems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and legal precedents.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build credible relationships across the organization.
  • Analytical skills to make data-driven decisions and solve problems.
  • Sound judgment, coaching, influencing, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to handle challenging or conflict situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Pay

$98,000 - $108,000 per year.
