About the role
The Human Resources (HR) Manager oversees day-to-day HR operations, supports employees, stays current in HR industry trends, and ensures compliance with relevant laws.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain HR policies, procedures, job descriptions, and employee handbook; coordinate updates as laws or company practices change.
- Onboard new employees ensuring compliance; participate in new hire orientation; coordinate background screenings and other pre-employment screenings.
- Maintain and update personnel, medical, MVR, and DOT files for each employee in an organized, confidential manner; input appropriate information into computer to maintain employee database.
- Partner with management regarding employee performance evaluation, recognition procedures, disciplinary action, policy and process improvement; liaison with managers in formal disciplinary actions.
- Support investigations of complaints related to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other alleged misconduct, in coordination with legal counsel.
- Prepare employee separation/unemployment notices and conduct exit interviews; compile data and monitor turnover rates and trends.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to manage recruitment, retention, and training policies and procedures; develop and maintain HR metrics and reports.
- Oversee company training and workforce development through training programs with outside vendors and internal resources; ensure all appropriate notices and policies are communicated to employees.
- Administer compensation and employee benefits including base pay structures, incentive plans, health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, and other company-sponsored programs; participate in annual open enrollment process.
- Respond to employee questions regarding company or statutory benefits and workplace concerns; handle leave administration process by filing routine forms, assisting employees with medical claim forms, and other related duties.
- Cook up return to work processes and accommodation discussions.
- Remains familiar with federal, state, and local statutes involving employee selection and employee relations; oversee payroll function and serve as backup for weekly payroll processing.
- Consult with managers and supervisors in interpreting and applying policies; inform management of significant changes in manpower levels, potential legal problems, pending terminations, pending retirements, and other related situations.
- Maintain a program for sound employee relations in accordance with established company policies; provide additional guidance and direction to department supervisors and administrative support professionals in the daily management of the office.
- Support internal audits of HR, payroll, and benefits processes to reduce compliance risks.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and present effectively with senior management, company departments, project teams, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and carriers.
- Exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, and set and adhere to deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
- Self-start, strong work ethic, and a team player.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred, but not required.
